I first met Tom (Dr. Allen) as a medical student who had an interest in sports medicine, but more specifically taking care of the wrestling athlete. He had been working with OSU Wrestling for a number of years when I first met him. We had some great conversations about his experiences as a wrestling doc at many conferences when we would run into eachother (notably at the AOASM). I wish I could say I had many more interactions with him, but I do fondly look back at the ones we did.
As I cover wrestling at the high school, collegiate, national/international and Olympic level, I think back on my conversations with Dr. Allen and how they helped me become a well-rounded physician to care for these athletes.
Tom Allen was a a trailblazer in the profession of sports medicine, wrestling medicine, and osteopathic medicine. He will be missed, but certainly not forgotten.
